Book ItFor excursions further afield take a full-day charter to the outer islands and reefs of the Caicos Banks. Two main choices include heading out to the reefs and beaches of West Caicos or south to French Cay, a small but vibrant bird sanctuary on the edge of the drop off.
The protected rocky coast of West Caicos offers some excellent diving and snorkeling. There are also some small coves for cliff jumping and the opportunity to take a walk inland to see old ruined plantations and the fabled Lake Catherine. A trip in this direction can also include some time on the otherwise inaccessible beaches and creeks of western Provo where an option to kayak can open up a whole new world. If weather permits you can return home a different way and circumnavigate Provo at the same time.
French Cay received its name from a pirate in the 18th century who used the outpost as a raiding station. Today we visit for the birds, reefs and solitude. Some of the best snorkeling and diving reefs are found fringing this small island and a few miles further away is the site of an ancient wreck on Molasses Reef and in the opposite direction, West Sand Spit, an usual and spectacular sand bar surrounded by pristine turquoise waters.
The decision on which island to visit is often dictated by the wind. It's also possible to pick-up guests from private villas along the southern shore of Providenciales if conditions are favourable.
